    Live mapping

Once you have loaded a TuneBoy map into your ECU you can make changes to fuel and ignition while the motor is running, this allows a dyno operator to tune the motorcycle faster than they could if they had to stop and reflash the ECU before any changes are made.
With a wide band O2 sensor in each exhaust pipe the TuneBoy Trim software on the PC will record the mixture from each cylinder and make corrections to bring the air fuel ratio to the point that provides best power and smooth running of your motor.
The software can adjust the mixture on each cylinder at the same time, this requires one LC-2 wide band O2 kit for each cylinder to allow the software to see individual cylinder fuel mixtures.
If you only have one LC-2 you can tune each cylinder individually, it just takes longer as you have to eleat the process for each cylinder.
Tuning can be done with a single trim map for both cylinders, this allows you to tune both cylinders in a single pass. You would do this if you are taking the A/F reading from a single pipe up the exhaust (This is how most dyno operators would tune).
The ignition advance can also be adjusted while the motor is running. The following video shows the live fuel and ignition mapping.

    Editing of ECU tables

The TuneEdit program that comes with the TuneBoy package allows you to edit many other tables in the ECU.
Any tables what are modified in the TuneEdit program require a reflash of the ECU to take effect.
Tables that can be edited will vary from model to model, the following is a list of the tables for the Ninja 300.

    • Fuel tables (TP v RPM) and (MAP v RPM)
    • Ignition tables
    • Secondary throttle tables
    • Injector timing table

The fuel tables give you direct access to the tables used for fuel calculations. The ECU uses two types of fuel table, one set is used to calculate fuel values based on manifold pressure and RPM, the other set is used to calculate fuel values based on throttle position and RPM.
The ignition tables are used to calculate the ignition advance for each cylinder, these tables use throttle position and RPM as index values.
The secondary throttle tables control the position of the secondary throttle plates, these are used to restrict power on some models.
The Injector timing table controls the start of injection point for the fuel injection, this table should only be adjusted by advanced users.

In addition to the editable tables the TuneBoy maps have some additional changes to improve the running of the motorcycle, one of these is the removal of the deceleration fuel cut. The standard mapping on the ECU will cut fuel when the throttle is fully closed, this causes a jerk when the rider turns the throttle and the ECU restarts the injectors. The TuneBoy map files turn this feature off so that the transition from closed to open throttle is smooth.
The thermo fan settings are also lowered to make the motor run cooler.

    Strain gauge quick shifter

The strain gauge quick shifter is available for the Ninja 300, we will add support for more models if we get enough requests for that model.
The TuneBoy strain gauge shifter is custom made to fit without any wiring modification, the quick shifter plugs into the TuneBoy device that you received with your purchase.
The strain gauge Quick Shifter has no moving parts, it measures the amount of force applied to the shifter and sends this information to the ECU.
The TuneBoy map file allows you to set the amount of pressure required before the quick shifter kills the power, this allows you to adjust the shifter for your riding style.
The shift pressure is automatically increased at higher throttle openings to make sure you don’t have any missed shifts.
The shift kill combines a hard and soft kill, this allows a quick gear change while taking up the gearbox slack in a soft manner, this reduces the load on the gearbox that a standalone QuickShifter kit would apply.

    Launch Control

The TuneBoy maps provide a launch control feature, this feature controls the rate that the motor can increase revs in first gear.
When the motorcycle has the clutch pulled and the motor is below 2000 RPM the launch control rev limit takes over from the standard rev limiter.
You can now turn the throttle to 100% and the RPM will hold at 7500 RPM.
Once you release the clutch the RPM will hold at 7500 for a brief time then sweep up until it reaches the normal rev limit value.
If you change gear the launch control ends and the normal rev limit will be used.
The RPM sweep rate increases as RPM increases, this helps control any wheel spin or front wheel lift by slowing the initial increase in revs without imposing too slow a sweep rate.
Note: The sweep rate is the speed that the rev limiter will climb back up to the normal rev limit.
The hold RPM and sweep rate can be adjusted to so you can get the perfect race start.
