Introduction
If you have problems getting TuneEdit to connect to the ECU on your bike you should follow these steps. Please follow every step in the order shown below. Do not assume that you can skip a step, this needs to be done in the order shown.
The example given is Windows Vista, some screens may look different under Windows XP, Win2K or Win98/ME.
1. Uninstall the TuneBoy software, To do this go to "Control Panel" and select "Programs and Features". Scroll down to "TuneBoy", right click on TuneBoy and select "Uninstall". Follow the prompts to uninstall the software.
2. Uninstall the device drivers for the cable (The cable must be connected to the PC when you do this).
Start Device manager, you can do this through the control panel or by selecting "Start" then "Run" (Windows XP), or by clicking on the Start orb on the bottom left of the screen (Windows Vista), type mmc devmgmt.msc and hit enter, click Continue on the warning prompt and the following screen will be displayed. Unplug the cable as soon as the device is deleted.
Do not close device manager as it is need in step 5.
3. Download the latest TuneBoy device drivers from http://www.tuneboy.com.au/Support/TuneBoyDrivers.zip ,Once they have downloaded you need to unzip the files to your PC, we recommend "C:\TB Drivers" as the location to unzip the drivers to.
Windows Vista can open the zip file and display the contents, to copy this to your PC just select the driver directory and right click, select Copy. Now move to your computers C:, create a new directory called TB Drivers, once inside this directory right click and select paste.
4. Connect the cable to the PC again, the following screen will be displayed.

Click on "Locate and install the driver software" and click Continue on the warning message that follows. After a minute of two the following screen will be displayed.

Click on the "I don't have the disc, Show me other options". The following screen will be displayed.

Click on "Browse my computer for driver software".

Click the "Browse" button and select the location where you unzipped the drivers, if you used the name we recommended your screen should look like the one above, now click Next.
The following warning will be displayed.

Click "Install this driver software anyway".

The drivers for the cable have now been installed, click Close.
5. Switch back to device manager and right click on the "TuneBoy Device" again, this time select "Properties", the following screen will be displayed.

Now select the "Advanced tab", the following screen will be displayed.
If you do not have the Advanced tab you should follow this link to force the correct drivers to load.

Put a tick in the "Load VCP" box then click the OK button.
Unplug the cable and plug it back in again. You will again be prompted to install device drivers, proceed as before (See Step 4).
6. In device manager you should now expand the "Ports (COM & LPT)", in this you will see "TuneBoy Device(COMn)"

Right click on this and select "Properties", select the "Port settings" tab, this should look like the following.

Click on the "Advanced..." button, the following screen will be displayed.

Change the "Latency Timer (msec)" to 1, your screen should now look like the one above.
Click the OK button to save the setting and the OK button on the next screen to close the properties window.
7. Download the registry clean program from http://www.tuneboy.com.au/Tutorials/TuneBoyRegClean.zip , Run the program in the zip and click the "Clear TuneBoy Registry settings" button, this will delete any tuneboy settings from your registry.
8. Download the latest TuneBoy setup program from http://www.tuneboy.com.au/Support/TuneBoy_V3.4.23.zip ,Once the file is downloaded you should run the Setup.exe in the zip. Follow the prompts, this will install TuneBoy V3.4.23 on your PC. Don't select the "Launch TuneBoy" option.
Once the install is complete you will have a folder "TuneBoy Tunes" on your desktop, open this folder then open the folder for your brand and model of bike. As an example if you has an Aprilia RXV 550 you would now see a screen like this.

Double click on the tune for your bike, for example the "25016Tune.dat" file. You will now see a screen like the following.

Click on the "Options" menu and select "Properties" the following screen will be displayed.

In the "Serial Port" box you should click the arrow at the end and select the "TuneBoy Device(COMn)".
If you are connecting to a KTM you need to have the tick in "Precision Timer", if not you should remove the tick as it is not required for other models and can cause problems on some PC's.
Click the Save button then close TuneEdit down.
9. Switch back to device manager and right click on the "TuneBoy Device" again, this time select "Properties", the following screen will be displayed.

Now select the "Advanced tab", the following screen will be displayed.

Remove the tick from the "Load VCP" box then click OK.
Unplug the cable and plug it back in again. You can now close device manager
10. Close the TuneEdit program now and double click on the TuneEdit icon on your desktop.
Connect the other end of the cable to the bike, If this is an Aprilia RXV or SXV make sure the earth clip on the cable is connected to a good metal part on the bike, if this clip is not connected the program will not communicate with the bike.
Turn the ignition on and make sure the kill switch is in the run position.
The LED on the cable will blink a few times and the following popup will be displayed.

Cut and paste this into an email and send it to support@tuneboy.com.au along with your details, please use the same email address you used for the purchase so we can find your records in our database.
If you purchased the product from another web site you should contact them for the software key.
11. If you ever have a download fail before it is complete you should close TuneEdit down, start it again, turn the bike off and on then select the "Tools" menu and the "Recover from failed download" option. This will bring the ECU back to a state where a normal download can be done.
The recovery download does not send any changes you have made to the map, you need to do a normal download once the recovery is complete.
If you have any problems getting the program to connect you should do a screen print of the error and email the screen print and the TuneEdit.trc file to support@tuneboy.com.au.
The TuneEdit.trc file can be found on your desktop.
The TuneEdit.trc file is replaced every time you start TuneEdit so it is important that you close TuneEdit after the problem and email this file before you start TuneEdit again, otherwise the trace file will have been replaced and no longer contain the information about the error.
